How Our Vocabulary Size Test Works
A transparent, frequency-based estimate for English learners and word lovers.
What we measure
This test estimates receptive vocabulary: your ability to recognize a word and understand its meaning. It does not measure speaking, writing, or official exam performance.
Word-frequency bands
Questions are grouped by word-frequency bands, from very common words to rarer advanced words.
How we estimate vocabulary size
We calculate your accuracy in each band and combine those band-level results into an estimated vocabulary range.
Why results are shown as a range
Vocabulary testing is based on sampling. A range is more honest than a fake precise number.
Limitations
This is not an official IELTS, TOEFL, SAT, CEFR, or certified English exam.
Question quality
Questions are checked for ambiguity, option quality, and user-reported issues.
